I confuse self-care with checking out

Numb scrolling, extra drinks, 'I deserve this,' then you wake up more empty.

Diagnosis

Checking out is not care. Care is what makes you more able tomorrow. Sleep, food, movement, silence, a real friend. If your recovery requires you to hide, it is not recovery. It is anesthesia.

Protocol

  1. 1Replace one numbing habit this week with a restoring one: walk, sleep, Word, water, a person.
  2. 2Write what actually restores you versus what only pauses the feeling.
  3. 3Protect it on the calendar like a meeting with someone you respect.

The standard: Recovery that makes you more dangerous to your problems, not more absent from your life.

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'
